***FUTURE STARS*** ENTRY FORM

FUTURE STARS 2010

CONDUCTED AT WESTBURY SHOW 6 NOVEMBER

PREMIER JUMPING EVENT IN TASMANIA

(formerley Saddleworld Launceston Futurity)

CLICK HERE to access entry form.

Entries close 18 October

Geoff Richards onboard McKellor was the first ever winner of this event in 1980.  It is safe to say Geoff Richards is one of the true legends of our sport.  This is what he recalls of the 1980 win. CLICK HERE to see the first ever newspaper article presenting the event.

1            What year/years did you win the TSJA North Futurity? 1980 (this was the first ever futurity)

2                       On what horse? Mckellor

3                       Do you remember the day?  Can you recall who was course designer and what was the course like?

Can’t remember the day and it would of been a mainland course designer but not sure who.

4            How did it feel to win?  Tell us about some of your other career highlights? It was a great feeling to win the first ever futurity especially after I had so much input into getting the event up and running.

Career highlights:

·       winning my first ever major championship at Launceston show at the age of 16

·       Representing Australia in New Zealand at the age of 19 in 1959

·       Winning the Sydney royal show gentleman’s turnout in 1969

·       Jumping 7’3’’(2.22m) in Cains high jump 1969

·       Winning Melbourne royal show grand prix in 1969 (written up as the toughest course to be jumped to date in Australia)

·       Winning the Devonport high jump on Tongo (14.1hh) jumping 6’3’’ (1.92cm) in 1993

5                  Tell us a little bit about the horse you won on? McKellor was owned by Chirs Taylor and I had only the first ride on him just three days before the event.

6                  Where did he/she come from and go on to do?Same as above

7                  Tell us how you got involved in show jumping?Growing up on a farm with ponies and creating our own fun lead to jumping obstacles of all sorts. Westbury was the first ever show I went to and competed in the novice hunter on Darkie the old family horse.

8                  Any advice for potential Futurity Competitors – or for young show jumpers wanting to get ahead in the sport?Set the futurity as a goal and work towards it, with the idea of winning it. For young riders to listen and watch others and work out what’s best for you and your horse.

THANKS TO GEOFF FOR SHARING HIS MEMORIES WITH US AND TO ELSIE RICHARDS FOR GAING ACCESS TO THEM
