2017 Nationals

The 2017 Interschool Nationals will be held in Toowoomba Queensland from 25th to 29th September 2017. To be eligible to compete you will be required to have competed at a Tasmanian Interschool championship within the last 12 months or meet other dispensation requirements.

Location

The event is being held at the Toowoomba showgrounds from 25th to 29th September 2017. For those interested you may like to be a few days earlier and attend the Total Equine Queensland horse expo on the weekend of 23 & 24th Sept at the same venue.

Horses

I have spoken to a couple of you and believe some are planning to take you own horses which is great, however I want to make you fully aware of the Hendra virus risks involved. Whilst the risk is low and the IS 2017 committee have assure me there will be a vet at the venue that will treat a sick horse it it up to you to assess the risk. Vaccinating against Hendra also has its inherent risks and suggest you talk to your vet. Below is a letter from QLD IS committee outlying the Hendra virus and possible risks.

For the others, Queensland IS committee are planning to have some 40 - 50 horses available to hire for the competition (fee approximate $500). These horses will be stabled in the Tasmania area. As far as I know horses are available for all disciplines except eventing. I have spoken to the person organising these horses and you ARE able to arrange you own loan horse.

If you are planning to use a loan horse, you will need to qualify on your own horse for that discipline and grade in Tasmania.

Accommodation

I understand that motel accommodation maybe difficult as time goes on as their is a major flower show in town as well. Suggest you book now. One of our riders family are staying at the

Camping at the showgrounds are pretty good apparently, so some of you that are flying up may wish to do what I'm doing and get a self-contained camper from Brisbane airport.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship is up to you, unless someone wants to put their hand up to get local companies to sponsor the team. A couple of leads for you.

1. Local councils usually give up to around $500
2. Contact your local politician.
3. AIS www.ausport.gov.au/participating/local_sporting_champions
4. Approach your local retailers.
